Panama

A tiny land of contrasts !

Panama is famous for its Canal, an engineering marvel that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and for its vital role in the future of international trade. However, to reduce Panama to its only canal would be to miss out on wonderful sites, rich in encounters and diversity of landscapes that are indisputable in the destination.

The paradoxes and contrasts are numerous. For example, the American legacy of modernity with skyscrapers next to historic colonial sites that played a major role in the Spanish conquest. A modern Capital, vibrant, trendy and at the same time historical by its “Casco Viejo” cohabit with the many Indigenous communities that still travel by pirogues make it a totally unusual discovery.

The extension of the Neo-Panamax Canal means even more transits, but you can choose at your own pace a multitude of sites such as a desert island and play “Survivor” for the day, stroll through the streets of the Casco Viejo, introduce you to the many Rooftops and enjoy a cocktail, walk for hours on end on the many marked trails of the National Parks, or go into the neighboring Provinces and immerse yourself in the traditions and rural life offered by this vast territory from the Atlantic to the Pacific…

Only a few kilometers from the capital, you will find a jungle accessible to lush tropical forests, inhabited by howler monkeys, toucans and other endemic species in complete safety.

Incentive Must-Dos

  • Panama City
With 70 skyscrapers, Panama city boasts the 3rd most impressive skyline of all the Americas, after New York and Chicago. Driven by a double digit economic growth and a ferocious attraction of foreign capital, the capital city of Panama quickly turned itself into the “Dubaï of Central America”. To face this incredible expansion, real estate developers now have to construct artificial land over the Pacific ocean and build satellite districts, such as the new residential and financial district of Costa del Este. Surprisingly rich, clean, and modern, Panama City is one of the safest cities in Latin America.

Indigenous people

Panama is home to eight ethnic groups of Amerindian indigenous people : the Ngobe-Bugle, Kuna, Embera, Wounaan, Naso-Teribe, Bokota, Guaymi, and Talamanca. All of them have their own culture, beliefs and language. The largest tribes have been granted by the State their own “Comarca”, or autonomous province. Despite an ongoing assimilation to the Western modern way of life, most of the indigenous tribes still live according to their millennial traditions, which you will discover during a day trip to an Embera or Kuna community
